2. Training-through research activity
Beschreibung:
The course entails training through-research experience, which will be prepared during the classes and carried out by students themselves in Rheinland-Pfalz territory libraries with the support of a local librarian. The work meeting in the libraries will be organized at the beginning of the course. This activity also entails making a video-clip, which will then be presented (together with further similar materials collected at an international level) during the international workshop Paper heritage Making: Mexican Treasury and Baroque Rome, convened by Sabina Brevaglieri in Rome on June 27-28. Online participation at the workshop is required (at least one session) as integral to the course. The training through research activity will substitute two classes (July 12 and 19). Further details will be discussed at the beginning of the course. For any urgent questions or doubts, please contact Sabina Brevaglieri brevagli@uni-mainz.de

1. Europe and the world: entangled perspectives through objects and knowledge
Beschreibung:
This module will be held in English. Seminar sessions will explore the global lives of things and their complex sedimentations, including knowledge making and circulations beyond rigid dichotomies through an entangled perspective between Europe and the worlds. This module invites students to re-think the plural spatial and cultural dimension of phenomena such as Heritage, Diplomacy, Art, Cosmopolitanism, and Christianity, and engage them with agencies, cultural mediation and asymmetric negotiations across the worlds. The course aims at providing students with up-to date historical scholarship and interdisciplinary methodological tools, as well as innovative internationally-scaled training-through-research experience. Active participation will be an essential requirement. Seminar sessions will include presentations, discussions, and work on sources. The first session will consist of a reading. A course introduction and discussion will follow in the opening session on April 26.
