Using JOGU-StINe is not always easy, and not all functions are intuitive. This page contains explanations of several JOGU-StINe functions, illustrated with screenshots, with the aim of making JOGU-StINe a little easier for you to use \u2013 at least with regard to the actions necessary for history students. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Students may want to take more than one course of the same type. In this case, one course generally takes place within the context of the degree program and additional courses are taken out of an interest in the subject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a rule, students in the history degree programs can register for courses not stipulated in the applicable examination regulations via the “Lehrangebot Geschichte”. These do not <\/em>count toward the degree you are enrolled in, resulting in what is basically an audit of the class without necessitating formal registration as an auditor. [The distribution of places is subject to the availability of places in the corresponding course.] However, if you already have a confirmed registration for an introductory seminar in Modern History, JOGU-StINe currently does not allow you to register for another introductory seminar in Modern History in the same semester, whether through module registration, the “Lehrangebot Geschichte”, or regular registration as an auditor. Instead, JOGU-StINe will ask you to deregister from the course you are already enrolled in before it allows you to register for a new course. This is because courses offered multiple times are currently, as a rule, combined into a single registration group in order to achieve a reasonably even distribution and ensure that as many students as possible are able to secure a spot \u2014 specifically in a course that matches their preference as closely as possible. <\/em> (does this still apply?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This results in students not being able to take additional courses simply out of interest. At the moment, this technical issue still remains. It has been reported to the company that developed JOGU-StINe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, we would like to make it possible for all students who are interested and motivated enough to take an additional course without requiring the corresponding course certificate to do so even if that means bypassing JOGU-StINe (depending on the course’s capacity).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are interested in taking a specific course, please send an email to Andreas Frings, afrings@uni-mainz.de<\/a> (Study Management) including the course name, your name, and your student ID number. If the course still has capacity, the student advising office will register you as an auditor. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

For clarity’s sake: With the exception of lectures, auditors are expected to participate in the course to the extent required of regular participants (preparation, reading material, presentation, etc.), but they are not required to complete the final examination.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/jgu-base-notificationbanner>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/jgu-base-section>\n

In the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, the only way to register for courses correctly is if you register within the context of a module you are already registered for.<\/strong> In other words: You first have to register for the correct module. In doing so, JOGU-StINe checks whether you fulfill all the requirements for registering for this module. If you encounter problems at this step, please contact the student advising office<\/a> for the Department of History and include your full name, student ID number, degree program, combination of subjects, and a description of the issue including the error message from JOGU-StINe. You are only entitled to take examinations if you register for courses within the context of a module, otherwise JOGU-StINe will not allow you to register for an examination!<\/strong> <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

In the menu on the left, first click on “Modules\/Courses”, then on “Registration”, and finally on “Module\/Course registration” (CAREFUL: Do not register using “Auditor registration” \u2013 doing so is only necessary for courses not in the series). You will see a selection of modules you can register for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n<\/jgu-base-image>\n\n\n

Please register for the module you need and confirm this registration on the follow-up page. You will be asked to “Submit” the registration in a third step. This completes your registration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
